چکیده

• The normal left ventricular response to progressive proximal aortic obstruction has three phases: (1) a phase of complete compensation in which, following transitory elevations of end-diastolic ventricular pressure (EDVT) and end-diastolic ventricular volume (EDVV), the peak ventricular pressure (PVP) is increased and cardiac output is maintained though end-diastolic ventricular pressure and volume return almost to normal"; (2) an as yet poorly defined phase of partial compensation in which peak ventricular pressure is further augmented and cardiac output is usually slightly diminished while end-diastolic ventricular pressure and volume are increased2' ' •"'•"; and (3) a, phase of decompensation in which peak ventricular pressure reaches a maximum and then decreases as cardiac output sharply falls and end-diastolic ventricular pressure and volume progressively rise. During the phase of partial compensation, the relation of end-diastolic ventricular pressure to the peak ventricular pressure might be expressed in the form of a ventricular "pressure-function" curve, analogous to the more usual "flow-function" curve which relates end-diastolic ventricular pressure to ventricular stroke volume (or stroke work) under conditions of a changing inflow load.

Effect of Carvacrol on Catalase Activity and mRNA Expression Following Left Ventricular Hypertrophy in Rats

Background and Aims: Cardiac hypertrophy is a compensatory augmentation response of the heart due to pressure overload that can lead to heart failure. Carvacrol is considered as the major compound of many plants, that possesses strong antioxidant properties. The present study aimed to evaluate effect of carvacrol on catalase activity and mRNA expression following left ventricular hypertrop...

Effect of exercise training and L-arginine supplementation on oxidative stress and left ventricular function in rats with myocardial infarction

Introduction: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of exercise training and L-arginine supplementation on oxidative stress and systolic ventricular function in rats with myocardial infarction (MI). Methods: Four weeks after the surgically-induced MI, 40 male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to the following 4 groups (n=10): MI-sedentary control (Sed) MI-exercise (Ex) MI-...

The Impact of Cardiac Rehabilitation on Pulmonary Artery Systolic Pressure and Left Ventricular End-Diastolic Pressure in Patients after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery

Background:Cardiac rehabilitation program (CRP) is a useful method of modifying cardiovascular risk factors, improving life expectancy and quality of life in patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD). The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of cardiac rehabilitation on the pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LV...

The Relation between Left Ventricular Function and Serum Ferritin in Major Β-Thalassemia

Abstract Objective Cardiac dysfunction is a major cause of death in patients with beta thalassemia. In these patients, repeated blood transfusion, ineffective erythropoiesis and increased gastrointestinal iron absorption lead to iron overload in the body and this induced heart failure. Left ventricular ejection fraction was measured in major beta thalassemia (β-Th) patients to detect the rela...

Normal Value of Left Ventricular End-Systolic Elastance in Infants and Children

Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance.  Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...
